Park Slope Food Co-op says Sandy make-ups are due

The Park Slope Food Co-op had to close October 29th and half of the day October 30th because of Hurricane Sandy.   The co-op, with their typically unyielding policies, never let their 15,000+ members know that because they were unable to work those shifts they are now all on something called, “alert.”  This means the clock is ticking for them as they all face suspensions if their shift isn’t made up within the next 10 days.  If members cannot make this happen they should speak to the office right away to ask for clemency.  The idea is to enact fair and just standards for all.  Okay, if you say so.

One Response to Park Slope Food Co-op says Sandy make-ups are due

Clarification: Any time the Coop is closed for any reason (short hours on a holiday, yearly inventory, or an extraordinary storm), members whose shift happened during that closed time do still need to work for that shift, at a later date. It’s simply that members must work 13x per year, and this is one of those 13 times.

They are not going to be suspended after 10 days, that is incorrect as stated above. Members with questions should call the Membership Office to ask – they may be able to get extensions so they are not suspended.

The Office always tries to work with our members to help them gain information and be able to shop. The Coop has been working with many members who were affected by the storm and will continue to do so.
